AGENCY: The T20 World Cup in Australia in October-November has been postponed due to the global outbreak of coronavirus (COVID 19).
The International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting on Monday postponed the World Cup. The T20 World Cup has been postponed for one year. Now the T20 World Cup will be held in October-November 2021, according to the ICC. The ICC One-Day World Cup is scheduled for October 2023. Earlier, the ODI World Cup was scheduled to be held in India from February 9 to March 26.
Similarly, the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in India in 2021 will be held in October-November 2022. Nepal was eliminated from the Asia selection in this year's T20 World Cup. Earlier, in the T20 World Cup to be held in India in 2021, Nepal had a chance to directly qualify for the global selection. Now, Nepal will play for the 2022 tournament.
The World Cup has paved the way for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to host the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). With the T20 World Cup and the Asia Cup T20 scheduled to be held in Pakistan in September, the IPL is almost certain to take place this year. The BCCI had been saying that the IPL would be held this year if the World Cup was moved. BCCI is preparing to play IPL in UAE.
