The performance of the Nepali national cricket team in the last one year has been disappointing and weak. Due to the failure to perform as expected, the popularity among the supporters has started declining.
The national cricket team has been without an international coach for five months. The Nepal Cricket Association (NCA) is preparing to publish a notice this week in collaboration with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to appoint foreign coaches. The main goal of the Nepali cricket team now is to continue the ODI recognition after 2022, to get Test recognition in the next 10-15 years by playing the World Cup in India. Whether the ODIs can be continued or not seems to clarify the future of Nepali cricket. Looking at the current preparation, performance structure, there is a big challenge to preserve ODI recognition.
Nepal got Farooq Jamal as its first foreign coach in 1996. Through Jamal, Brian Begin, and Haroon Rashid, Nepal got Sri Lankan coach Roy Dias in 2001. Dias, who watched Nepali cricket till 2010, took Nepal to Division 4. Dias oversaw Nepali cricket for almost a decade. Dias is the longest-serving coach in Nepali cricket. In a decade, he laid the foundation of Nepali cricket well.
Due to the same good foundation, Nepali cricket took a new leap after the arrival of Pubudu Dasanaike in 2011. After winning the Division 4, 3 and 2 titles, he played in the 2014 T20 World Cup in Bangladesh for the first time. The World Cup is considered to be the biggest success in the history of Nepali cricket. But due to Can's repeated internal strife, Puvudu did not see his future and left for the United States in 2015. After Dasanayake left, coach Jagat Tamata took over until 2019. Nepal has achieved historic ODI recognition as the coach of Tomato. He also won the historic T20I and ODI series.
In June 2076, Nepal appointed Umesh Patwal as the permanent coach of Indian cricket. But his tenure did not last long in Nepal. In January, Patwal resigned, claiming that his salary was too high. Nepal's success in Patwal's training was disappointing. He failed to reach the T20 World Cup and did not perform satisfactorily in other games. We had to face criticism over and over again.
Since then, CAN has given the responsibility to Tomato until a foreign coach arrives. The team's performance has been declining lately. From this situation, it seems necessary to have a coach who has the ability to take Nepali cricket to the level of Test dream by giving continuity to ODI recognition. There are many things to consider when appointing a coach. Now a foreign coach who comes to play Nepali cricket should have these five qualities.
5. To be able to show patience on the player
In the last three years, Nepal has given opportunities to many young players. But he could not show patience. The effect is declining performance and chaotic batting lineup. Nepal has used Sunil Dhamla, Dipendra Singh Airy, Sandeep Lamichhane, Sandeep Jora, Dilip Nath, Lalit Bhandari, Rohit Kumar Poudel, Rashid Khan, Ishan Pandey, Kushal Bhurtel and Anil Kumar Shah since 2017.
It seems that the player is in a hurry to make his debut. That is why the players have not been able to understand the importance of the national team nor have they been able to prove themselves. There are a lot of players who don't get another chance after one performance and series. Lack of patience can cause a player to lose confidence and that talent can be wasted. Not all players seem to be given the same opportunity.
While some players have been on the team for a long time due to poor performance, many players have been eliminated after playing poorly in a series or competition. The incoming coach should be able to give equal opportunity to all the players who give him a chance in the national team. For example, any player must set a limited goal in advance. In the meanwhile, the players fail to prove themselves, find out their weaknesses, and have a basis to work hard.
If it can be proved, the confidence of the player will increase and the performance will also increase. When a player is afraid of getting out of a bad game, he focuses on individual performance, not on the team, to save his place. It hurts the team as well as the players themselves.
Cricket is a team game. Winning is not possible just by the performance of one player. Irresponsibility increases. Which seems to be the main problem of today's young players. So patience seems to be a virtue. It takes more patience than that to make a debut. Successful world cricket batsmen Sachin and Dhoni were also out for zero in their debut match. So young players may fail to prove themselves in the first game.

4. Friendly, calm nature and equal treatment
The coach should have a light knowledge of the history of Nepali cricket. Not only this, with the help of good manners you can do just that. The player should be able to explain in a calm manner. Players should be able to remind the performer with encouragement, not anger. Which gives the player more energy, motivation and can perform better. On the other hand, the coach should treat the players and the association equally.
Which makes it easier for the team to move forward. When the relationship between the association and the players deteriorates, it affects the team to reach the top. The behavior and speaking style of the trainer also has a lot of influence. Should not have the nature of Side and beside
3. Recognize young talent and player potential
If Pubudu had not recognized the talent at that time, perhaps today Sandeep Lamichhane would have been limited to a normal player. Many of the players seen in the age group lately have come through the Talent Hunt. There is no shortage of talented players in Nepali cricket. The coach should be able to recognize young talent.

There should be a quality to recognize the talents in the toll roads of Nepal. Kathmandu should not be centered. You have to visit different districts from time to time. Which will take Nepali cricket even higher? Young players tell the future of those countries. If the young players are not ready, the team will become weak after the retirement of one player. Examples can be given to countries like Kenya, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe.
On the other hand, you have to be able to identify which player has which style of ability. You need to know which player is more useful in T20 and 50 overs. When giving a chance to a young player, you should be able to decide which player is right to remove. Nepali domestic cricket is more focused on T20. But at the international level, the team has been struggling in T20.
It is definitely not easy to select a player for 50 overs from T20. That is why a trainer should have special qualities. Who can make a leap in Nepali cricket in both T20 and 50 overs at the international level? Not all T20 players can perform well in 50 overs. A player who does well in 50 overs may not do so in T20.
2. Test experience
The incoming coach should have experience of playing Test matches at the international level or working with a Test team. Nepal's goal is Test. But many do not know how to get enough test recognition. Pubudu had brought Nepal to ODI status. So now Nepali cricket needs more than a Pubudu level coach.
The incoming coach must have the ability to pass the test. On the other hand, you must have previous experience working with Test or ODI countries. The experience that Nepali cricket can bear to move forward.

1. More knowledge in batting and clear language
If the batting problem of Nepali cricket is to improve, it is likely to make a leap at the international level soon. Weak batting has been the main reason for many opportunities lost by Nepali cricket. Therefore, when appointing a coach, Nepal should give priority to those who have more knowledge in batting. In other words, Nepali cricket can be promoted quickly if a coach who pays special attention to batting is brought.
If the coach has little knowledge about batting, it will be difficult to take Nepali cricket to the next level. Nepal's unstable batting should be stabilized. It seems to be necessary to understand the weakness of the player and improve accordingly. In order to play in the World Cup and get enough Test recognition in 10 years, it is necessary to improve the level of Nepali batting. Especially in young players. For that, the language of the trainer should be clearly understood.
If the player finds it difficult to understand what the coach is saying, it will not improve. It can be even more of a problem. Bringing more knowledge in bowling or bringing in a former bowler may not improve the problem of Nepali batting. If the batting problem does not improve, Nepali cricket cannot be imagined to rise.
